In an article for Football.London, Alasdair Gold has urged Spurs to make a move for Lille’s Boubakary Soumare in the summer.

In a Q and A session with fans, Gold was asked by one fan who he would sign if he was given the go-ahead to spend £50 million on a realistic signing for the North London club. The journalist suggested that the 20-year-old would be his choice, with Spurs having regularly been linked with him throughout the January transfer window.

He said:

“£50m isn’t really enough to get you a ready-made superstar but it can certainly get you a very good player who fits the Spurs profile of becoming one in the very near future. I think, with some negotiating, I’d go for Boubakary Soumare.

“The Lille midfielder, who turns 21 later this month, reportedly rejected a move to Newcastle despite a fee being agreed last month so he’s within Tottenham’s and that £50million price tag.

“Soumare would fix a problem within the Spurs squad with the need for a top quality defensive midfielder and a reunion with Joao Sacramento makes sense, the Spurs assistant manager knowing his qualities well and how he would fit in at Spurs.” (per Football.London – 15:09 in blog)

TIF Tactics:

Spurs spent big on a young French midfielder last summer and Tanguy Ndombele has not done too much to impress fans so far this season; averaging a 6.86 rating for his performances in the Premier League. Soumare, who is valued at £24.3 million (as per Transfermarkt), has just 68 senior appearances to his name and no experience of playing in England, so it would certainly be a risky signing if Spurs were to bring him in.

Gold added more details on his dream signing of Soumare, saying:

“Just imagine a midfield trio of Lo Celso, Soumare and Ndombele, with Winks providing competition for all three.

“So that’s where my £50million goes but like Levy I’d look to get that price down a bit and put some of the money elsewhere” (per Football.London – 15:09 in blog).
