A lot of Tottenham Hotspur fans were delighted with Steven Bergwijn’s performance against Aston Villa.
The 22-year-old made his second league start for the club and played a big part in Spurs’ second goal as he won the penalty (1:20) that Heung-min Son eventually scored from – after first seeing his effort saved by Pepe Reina but then converting the rebound. (1:46)
Was Bergwijn Spurs' best player?
Yes
No
Bergwijn, who cost Tottenham £27m in January, was a constant thorn in Villa’s side throughout and earned himself a 7/10 rating from Alasdair Gold and also a 7.85 rating from WhoScored.
Certainly, these Tottenham fans were impressed by the Dutchman.
What a steal! He’s young, clinical, talented, and Premier League ready!

Just to say, @StevenBergwijn looks an absolute star. Haven’t been this excited by a Spurs signing for a long time. Quick, powerful, technically strong…

One fan even suggested that Bergwijn has the pace that Spurs have been missing since Gareth Bale left for Real Madrid back in 2013.
Bergwijn is the pace we’ve been missing since Bale #COYS

What do we think?
Bergwijn has a 100% win record so far and has made an immediate impact on this Tottenham side.
He scored a cracking goal on his debut against Manchester City (1:08), and at the weekend, forced Bjorn Engels into a tackle that allowed Son to score and put Spurs 2-1 up at half time.
Though it is early days for Bergwijn’s Spurs career, he has started well, and many Spurs fans must be hoping he continues in this vein.
