Some Southampton fans have been left raging by former striker Charlie Austin’s latest comments about the club’s fans.
Austin, who is currently at West Bromwich Albion, posted some controversial comments on Twitter recently after he became involved in a bitter exchange with Saints fans. He had criticised Southampton fans’ level of support during his time at St. Mary’s.
Was Austin right to abuse Southampton fans?
Never, he's disgusting
Yes, can't blame him
Once the war of the words stopped, many Southampton fans were left seething about what Austin had said. They had some harsh words to say about the Englishman.
Austin rattles our fanbase so easily; and to be fair, I’m not surprised – his comments are out of order #SaintsFC

This tells you everything you need to know about why Ralph was so keen to get Austin out of the club. #saintsfc

Don’t like to use this account for that type of thing but Charlie Austin has a problem with his use of social media and his replies to accounts despite the fact he did a tweet claiming people tweet without remorse. Clearly he’s a very delusional character. #SaintsFC pic.twitter.com/Ilu93bbM2U

Fantastic from Charlie Austin today. Most forgettable player to play for #SaintsFC in recent years and still manages to make himself less popular than Van Dijk

Charlie Austin got his fishing rod out again I see. Don’t rise to it #SaintsFC fans

So can we erase Charlie Austin Benoit/WWE style from all old footage? What an absolute clown #saintsfc

He thinks he’s bigger and better then he actually is beyond delusional

Southampton signed Austin from QPR in January 2016 for a fee reported to be about £4 million. He left the club this past summer for the Baggies in the Championship, also for a fee of £4 million.
In his last season at St. Mary’s, Austin made 27 appearances in all competitions in the 2018/19 campaign. He scored only three goals, picking up three assists as well.
What do we think?
Austin is known for his ranting abilities, as evident from his rant in favour of VAR last season, but he may have stepped over the line in this case. He’s a professional and should not go abusing people on social media.
