Charlie Nicholas has issued Celtic fans a transfer update about on-loan goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

Forster is currently on a temporary deal at Parkhead, on loan from Premier League side Southampton.

Sky Sports pundit Nicholas was recently interviewed by the Daily Record and apart from Odsonne Edouard, he also talked about the situation of Forster at Celtic.

Nicholas ‘is led to believe’ that Celtic are paying £40,000 a week to Southampton in the ongoing loan deal for Forster and went on to suggest that there is ‘no commitment’ from the Parkhead side to make the transfer a permanent one in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Should Forster be signed permanently?

A key figure at Parkhead

Forster has become the first-choice goalkeeper at Celtic upon his return. He has made 23 Premiership appearances, playing the full 90 minutes in every league game since his switch. He has kept 12 Premiership clean sheets, letting in only 13 goals so far.

He has played five Europa League games, keeping a clean sheet in one and conceding four European goals in total.

One of Forster’s best games came against Lazio in the Europa League away from home. The Englishman got the team’s highest Whoscored rating in the game – 7.79. He made as many as six saves at the Stadio Olimpico, making a parried save on two occasions.

TIF Tactics

Forster boasts of the second-highest Whoscored match rating in the club’s Europa League campaign this season and it shows what an impact he has had at the club. He knows the place from his previous spell, which had ended with a move to Southampton in the summer of 2014 for a £10 million fee.

Signing him permanently would only maintain the quality Celtic have at the back.
