Sky Sports expert Andy Hinchcliffe has issued a transfer claim about former Leeds United target and Southampton striker Che Adams.

Adams was linked with a move to Leeds in the January transfer window but the move didn’t go through as Southampton had rejected as many as three bids from the Yorkshire club about the former Birmingham City forward.

Does Adams deserve time at Southampton?

Yes, give him time!

Never, hasn't done enough for it

Recently, Hinchcliffe was talking on the Sky Sports EFL podcast (via HITC) and he suggested why a move for Adams did not materialise last month.

When talking about Leeds, he said: “Now, with Augustin coming in is it genuinely right – you have two guys there and the best one is going to start the game. Not, it’s going to be Bamford, and then Augustin on the bench. That was the problem in the Che Adams deal.

“He probably wanted to come to Leeds but Bielsa couldn’t guarantee him a starting place.”

Still settling in at Southampton

Southampton signed Adams from Birmingham in the summer of 2019 for a reported £15m fee. But BBC Sport had also reported that the Saints wanted to sign the Englishman in January 2019, but the move didn’t go through.

In the Championship last season, Adams was in impressive form for the Blues. He had scored 22 times in 48 games in all competitions. During this time, he had notched hat-tricks against Hull City and Queens Park Rangers.

But this season in the Premier League, Adams is yet to find the back of the net for the Saints. He has made 23 appearances in all competitions, picking up three assists for the club, too.

TIF Tactics

Adams’ Whoscored rating stands at 6.23 – the fourth-worst player for the club statistically. It shows that his stint at the club so far hasn’t been too impressive. As much as it has been a struggle for him, he may need time to settle into the Premier League.

Danny Ings becoming a regular upfront and scoring 14 goals in the Premier League has meant that Adams isn’t playing enough. With time, there is a chance that Adams gets some goals.
