A lot of Newcastle United fans are talking about the Toon’s signing of Joelinton after Mark Douglas released a piece focussing on Transfermarkt’s valuation of Joelinton.
The website now feels that the 23-year-old is worth £27m, and even before that, they thought he was worth £31.5m and not the £40m, which the Magpies paid Hoffenheim.
Do you think the Joelinton deal is dodgy?
Yes, something not right
No, just not getting the best out of him
The piece also mentions that Rafael Benitez’s scouts had doubts that the Brazilian was a ready-made number nine.
Douglas does not blame Joelinton, but questions those who were so determined to bring him to the club last summer instead, and these Toon fans feel there is something dodgy about the deal.
Joelinton is struggling to convince – and it's difficult to watch at times.
The amount his value's dropped – and the questions about #nufc hierarchy that his uncomfortable season raises. https://t.co/Ln3tJB2cMR

For whatever reason they were determined they were signing him at all costs.
It cost us Benitez and in turn 10,000 season ticket holders.
The deal absolutely stinks.
One bad decision to another and unless he sells we haven’t seen the last relegation under Ashley.— Liam (@Liam_Reay83) February 18, 2020
Totally agree with this. Whoever is responsible for this signing should be held accountable. We let go 25 PL goals and didn’t sign a senior striker. Someone needs to be sacked over this debacle

Other Newcastle supporters feel sorry for Joelinton as they think he is not a striker.
Who valued him at that in the first place? I feel for the lad but we’ve had our pants pulled down. He’s barely worth £7m. Id rather have Daryl Murphy up top. Embarrassing at how much we paid considering we let mitro go for £20m odd and he’s much better. #nufc

Totally agree. So he isn’t good enough? Not his fault. If anyone to blame it’s the scouting network that brought him in. He actually a decent player just not a centre forward where they playing him. Another Jon Dahl Tomasson episode all over again !!

He’s not worth a mil

I feel sorry for the lad. He’s clearly not a number 9.

This. He was brought in for an inflated fee, to play out of position in a new league, in a new country.
Ashley clearly saw him as the next Coutinho, but he was the only one. Wouldn’t surprise me if he doesn’t splurge again after this, holding us responsible somehow.

What do we think?
The 23-year-old played four games for Hoffenheim on the wing and three as a second striker last season.
From these positions, he scored two goals and provided three assists. So maybe he isn’t a striker after all.
Certainly, a return of one Premier League goal would suggest that.
