Newcastle United made a bid for Saido Berahino back in January 2016, but it was turned down by West Bromwich Albion at the time. The striker eventually joined Stoke City, though following an unsuccessful spell there, the 26-year-old now plays his football for Zulte Waregem in Belgium.
These Newcastle fans have been discussing what might have been had their bid for the former Premier League striker been successful.
Were Newcastle United lucky not to sign Saido Berahino?

Huge bullet dodged there. I bet we didn’t offer that anyway.

Where is he now

There’s obviously a player there but I think mismanagement on both sides have contributed to the downfall he had. Looks like he’s starting to do well again now.

What do we think?
Saido Berahino’s career certainly hasn’t progressed the way it could have. The forward scored 36 goals in 121 appearances for West Bromwich Albion prior to the breakdown in the relationship between the player and club. After a move to Tottenham failed to materialise in August 2015, Berahino suggested he would never play for the chairman Jeremy Peace again (as per BBC Sport).
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but we will never know for sure whether a move to St. James’ Park would have worked out for the player and the club.
