A lot of Newcastle United fans are annoyed with Chris Waddle after he spoke about Mike Ashley and called him a “lovely bloke.”
Waddle speaking about the proposed takeover of Newcastle, saying that he once met Ashley after a match with Tottenham Hotspur and told him that he should talk to the media and fans more, as per The Chronicle.
Should Waddle have kept his mouth shut?
Yes, pointless statement
No, he is entitled to his opinion
The former Toon winger, who made 190 appearances for the club, claimed that he thinks the only reason that Ashley has not sold Newcastle yet is that he wants to keep a share in the club – and that is putting investors off.
However, despite the BBC pundit previously criticising the Magpies owner, these Newcastle fans are not happy with these latest comments from Waddle and have revealed their fury on Twitter.
"I have only met Mike Ashley once, after a game against Tottenham and I had a nice chat with him. I thought he was a lovely bloke." #NUFC https://t.co/m5OXlfpLUg

What do we think?
The new takeover rumours emerged in the Wall Street Journal two weeks ago, and Waddle is the latest person to have his say.
However, calling Ashley a “lovely bloke” is hardly likely to go down well with a fanbase who want him out of their club.
Perhaps Waddle would have been better off saying nothing.
