Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to share their criticisms over Danny Drinkwater after his performance against Tottenham Hotspur.
This comes after Villa journalist Ashley Preece shared a post on his official Twitter page claiming that the faith Dean Smith has put into the Englishman has “backfired” so far.
Will Danny Drinkwater come good for Villa?
Yes, give him time
No, he's finished
This post also contained an article from the Birmingham Mail on Villa’s January recruit.
The post then led to a lot of Villa fans replying with their thoughts on Drinkwater’s time at Villa Park so far.
Here’s a sample of Villa fans criticising Drinkwater:
Drinkwater completed 50 passes with a match-high completion % vs Spurs in his 59-minute showing which proves why Dean Smith has risked him – but keeping faith has so far backfired #AVFC https://t.co/BBuPKogKT8

All i saw was a guy people ran away for fun. When he did get near anyone he was too slow and ended up fouling. Looks shot. Legs gone. Rather player Hourihane. Need McGinn back.

Should be nowhere near the squad never mind starting. Ball looks like hot coal at his feet and he looks like a fish out of water. Sorry but deano needs to be questioned on this. MN and CH are ahead of him IMO

He tries, but honestly his fitness is not of the standard required and positional discipline is all over the place. A desperate signing.

The former Leicester City man joined Aston Villa on loan from Chelsea after spending the first half of the season at Burnley (per Transfermarkt). During Villa’s 3-2 defeat to Jose Mourinho’s side at the weekend, Drinkwater was substituted in the second half to make way for Marvelous Nakamba, as he earned a match rating of 6.2 – the third-lowest of any starting Villa player (per WhoScored). Preece’s latest post paved the way for lots of Villa fans to share their negative thoughts on Drinkwater and his early performances in a Villa shirt.
He is terrible

Not good enough, need to be ruthless no matter what or who you upset, he’ll be okay back at Chelsea in the summer, we may not!

What do we think?
In his four Premier League appearances for Villa, Drinkwater has averaged a total rating of 5.74 according to WhoScored. With this poor record for his current club, it comes as no surprise that so many Villa fans have been questioning Drinkwater’s ability as well as the decision to bring him to Villa Park in the first place.
