Aston Villa fans have been sharing their disappointment on Twitter over the latest injury update surrounding midfielder John McGinn.

This comes after Villa journalist Ashley Preece shared a post on his official page revealing that McGinn will be unavailable to play in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final between Villa and Manchester City.

Have Villa missed John McGinn?

Yes, badly

Yes, badly

No, not really

No, not really

This post then gathered a lot of replies from Villa fans who were disheartened that their midfield man would not be fit enough to play at Wembley on Sunday.

Here’s a sample of Villa fans responding to the post:

The Scottish international has been out since December after fracturing his ankle against Southampton earlier in the season. Despite the midfielder nearing the end of his spell on the sidelines, it has now been revealed that Sunday’s Carabao Cup final will come too soon for McGinn to return to action for Dean Smith’s side. While this news disappointed some Villa fans, others saw the bigger picture to not rush the 25-year-old back into the swing of things.

What do we think?

While it’s understandable why some Villa fans would want to see McGinn back as soon as possible after having such a good start to the season, perhaps the best thing for the midfielder would be to not rush his return to the team so he does not risk further injury. Before suffering the initial ankle fracture, McGinn had been one of Villa’s top performers with a season rating of 7.26, according to WhoScored.
