Aston Villa fans have been sharing their thoughts on Twitter over their side’s defensive troubles.
This comes after Villa journalist Matt Maher shared a post on his official page revealing that after their 3-2 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, Villa have now conceded 50 goals in the Premier League so far this season, more than any other team this campaign.
Will Villa avoid relegation this season?
Yes
No
This post then led to a lot of Villa fans replying to the post with their thoughts on this worrying statistic.
Here’s a sample of Villa fans responding to the post:
Son's goal the 50th #avfc have conceded in the Premier League this season. Statistically now the worst defence in the top flight. If you want to know why they are 17th, look no further.

Simply not good enough at premiership level not going 2 stay up with defending like we do pathetic

Er step forward Mr J Terry. Defense and defensive midfield just not learning imo. Far too many chances conceded yet everyone continues to praise JT – awful set up

Smith refuses to learn, or make changes during the game. Absolute joke

Villa conceded three goals against Jose Mourinho’s side at Villa Park on Sunday, making them the first team to concede 50 Premier League goals this year. Now that Maher revealed this unfortunate statistic, this opened the door for plenty of Villa fans to reply to the post with their thoughts on their leaky defence.
Just about 2/game then. CBs – sometimes with, but especially without – Mings are so error prone + inexperienced at this level. It’s killing us and may well send us down.

@mjmarr_star agree, but who’s to blame? What’s JTs role? Is DS bring to naive? Are the players simply not good enough? I don’t believe that to be the case. If it doesn’t change we will go down.

And everyone was obsessed with our striker crisis.
We needed Vida.

What do we think?
It’s not a good sign that for a team aiming to avoid relegation to have conceded so many goals. The hope for Dean Smith and the Villa fans now would be for their side to fix up their defensive work and try and get as many positive results as possible in the remainder of the season.
