Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts on current manager Dean Smith after their weekend defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
This comes after Villa journalist Ashley Preece shared a post on their official Twitter account revealing that Smith has now been in charge at the Birmingham club for “16 months or 496 days.”
Is Dean Smith the right man to help Villa avoid relegation this season?
Yes
No
This post then gathered a lot of replies from Villa fans who were eager to share their opinions on Smith and the job he has done and is currently doing for the team.
Here’s a sample of Villa fans discussing Smith:
Dean Smith has been at Aston Villa for 16 months or 496 days. Let that sink in!
gone off on one about the job he's had to do & still doing while calling on the cynics to have a little perspective #AVFC #UTVhttps://t.co/7tNO4kOA8n

He did an amazing job to get us here. Thought he would adjust to the PL better but it hasn’t been the case so far. Hopefully we are learning and can survive this season. If we do we can have a very decent next season.

He’s doing a great job considering we’ve been plagued with nothing but bad luck, bad decisions, VAR… ??

As Preece eluded to, Smith became the manager at Villa back in October 2018 (per Transfermarkt). Now with Villa in the Premier League, the Birmingham side are currently hovering over the relegation zone in 17th place in the Premier League table. Their most recent match saw them lose 3-2 to Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur side at Villa Park on Sunday, resulting in them becoming the first team in the Premier League this season to concede 50 goals. Now that time has passed since this last defeat, Villa fans have been assessing the job Smith has done at the club during his tenure as manager.
I think ds is doing a really good job I believe we will stay up just about and then its about keeping jack and getting some real quality besides him

Deano is also learning as we go. It’s a massive learning curve for him and the squad and I’m 100% behind him.

He’s done a great job to get us here albeit he’s been carried by Grealish but is he the man to keep us up and take us forward? Personally don’t see it.

What do we think?
It’s good to see so many Villa fans recognising the good job Smith has done to get Villa back in the Premier League this year. Despite their current position in the Premier League table, it seems they still believe Smith is the right man for the job at Villa Park.
