Aston Villa were reportedly in the process of signing Burnley’s Matej Vydra in the recent January transfer window.

According to Vydra’s agent Ondrej Chovanec (via Sport24) Villa were one of the clubs ready to sign the midfielder in last month’s transfer window.

Vydra stayed at Burnley as the club did not want to sell their man in January.

Should Villa try and sign Matej Vydra again this summer?

The agent also revealed that Rangers and some Ukrainian clubs were also interested in taking the 27-year-old away from Turf Moor.

The Czech Republic international, who is currently valued at £4.5 million according to Transfermarkt, signed to Burnley in the 2018 summer transfer window for a fee of £10.98 million from Derby County (per Transfermarkt).

Since becoming part of Sean Dyche’s squad, Vydra has only made 26 appearances for the club, scoring 2 goals and grabbing four assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

This season has only seen the midfielder make nine appearances in all competitions.

TIF Tactics – A second chance?

Should Villa feel the need to try and sign Vydra again at the end of the season during the summer transfer window, they would be getting a player who has lots of experience in football after making 338 club appearance throughout his career (per Transfermarkt).

But without getting many chances to make an impact at Burnley this season, any move for Vydra would surely balance on how much playing time he would be getting.

Villa will need to make sure that Vydra would be a right fit for the club with his weaknesses being passing, aerial duels and crossing (per WhoScored).

Vydra’s crossing issues could be an issue for the club who currently have Mbwana Samatta as their striker who won five aerial duels in his first Premier League game for the club.
