Aston Villa are reportedly interested in bringing Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi to Villa Park this summer.

According to website Turkish Football (via Birmingham Mail), the Birmingham club sent scouts to watch the 25-year-old in action for Fenerbahce in their 2-1 defeat away at Trabzonspor at the weekend.

The article also claims that Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City, Manchester United and AS Monaco are also interested in the striker.

The Kosovo international is currently valued at £10.8 million according to Transfermarkt.

Will Villa need to sign another striker in summer?

Muriqi boasts a decent record for the Turkish side so far this season. In 21 appearances, the striker has scored 13 goals and assisted five times (per Transfermarkt). This record has earned Muriqi an impressive season rating of 7.63 for the Super Lig (per WhoScored).

Despite not scoring in their recent defeat, Muriqi still managed to get a match rating of 7.3, the second-highest of any Fenerbahce player on the pitch.

The report also stated that Villa wanted to sign Muriqi in January, but Fenerbahce were not prepared to sell “as they did not feel they could find a replacement in time” (per Turkish Football).

TIF Tactics – Strength in depth

Villa’s January transfer window saw the club sign Mbwana Samatta from KRC Genk for a fee of £9.45 million according to Transfermarkt, as well as Borja Baston on a free transfer. These transfers were made to fill in for Wesley who picked up a season-ending injury at the start of January.

Whether Villa would still want to sign another striker in the summer transfer window with Samatta, Baston, Davis and Wesley in the squad is yet to be seen.

But should Muriqi make the move to Birmingham in the summer, they would be getting a player whose style of play includes playing layoff passes (per WhoScored). This trait could be useful should Muriqi be playing alongside players like Jack Grealish whose strengths involve playing key passes, short passes and dribbling in attacking positions (per WhoScored).
