This week, during his press conference, Phil Parkinson spoke on the potential business the club would be completed over the next few days. He insisted that transfers could take place, but only if they benefit the team.
“There are possibly more to come, but we will only bring one in if we feel it helps the team,” said Parkinson (Sunderland).
When fans read this statement on Twitter they were left confused. Not only do they think the team is in desperate measure of recruitment, they think just one signing wouldn’t be good enough.
In fact, many fans point to the club’s left-back position as being a serious area of concern. They are worried that if Denver Hume is injured there will be nobody available to step in and take his place in the lineup.
Need a minimum of two and that’s being generous.

Need a minimum of 2 cover for LB & Cover for Gooch/Maguire and that’s being generous as could also do with a 10+ striker

We very clearly need more than one? We only have one left back and had nobody to bring on for Gooch on Friday despite him looking shattered and only used 2 subs…

Denver hume only… at lb all rest of season when the teams above us are in form. Im worried a bit. #safc

No replacement full backs and toothless up front

Phil, we have one left back.

Do you think the club will sign a left-back in the next couple of days?
Yes
No
What do we think?
The side are leaving their potential squad deepening until the very last minute in this window, assuming more deals are coming. But, it is clear from the fans above that a backup for Hume is the bear minimum. The insist Parkinson makes that singing a priority over all else.
