Around about a month ago, Sunderland fans would have been forgiven for regretting their club’s decision to hire Phil Parkinson. On Boxing Day the club lost to Bolton, marking their ninth game without a win in all competitions (WhoScored.com). But since that game, the side have won four of their last five games. It is a serious turn in fortunes, which has resulted in the club now breaking into the top six of League One, and therefore a playoff spot. They are also just six points behind first place with a game in hand.

Their weekend win against MK Dons played a big part in this achievement. The club only managed to win 1-0, however, after Lynden Gooch scored a screamer in the 79th minute. After the match, a fan posted a video of his son passionately celebrating the goal. Many fans, and Gooch himself, applauded the young fan’s passion.

Do you think Sunderland will get promoted?

One supporter even suggests that the players watch the footage before their next match. He thinks it could inspire them.

What do we think?

Sunderland fans will be happy to see the passion flowing back into their club now that their team is winning again. If Parkinson continues to drive Sunderland to victory after victory, it will push them even further up the table. Who knows, maybe they can even earn an automatic promotion or win the whole thing?
