Sunderland’s 4-0 win over Wycombe Wanderers was a huge result from Phil Parkinson’s side. The team was on form, scoring four goals against a side that sat at the top of the league before the match. But while goals from Denver Hume, Charlie Wyke and Chris Maguire won the match, Jon McLaughlin played an equally important role in the win.
The goalkeeper was on form again in this match, making a total of five saves throughout the match. The player’s performance had fans questioning why the club had failed to offer him a new contract. They want to see him resign before his contract expires in the summer.
But the owner won’t offer him a contract ???

How about giving him a new contract then?
— Parker (@Parkersafc) January 12, 2020
Do you want the club to offer Jon McLaughlin a new contract?
Yes
No
The fans think the Scottish shot-stopper is getting back to his best, replicating his form from last season, where he managed to keep 16 clean sheets in his 56 appearances across all competitions (per TransferMarkt). Should he leave, it could be a huge blow to Parkinson, who has seemingly just found his footing as the Sunderland manager.
More like last season’s McLaughlin this!!

What do we think?
Unless the club are willing to upgrade in the position, they will be wise to negotiate a contract extension sooner rather than later. If he hasn’t signed a deal or made a move away by the end of the January window, there is a major risk that McLaughlin could walk away for free at the end of the season.
