Sunderland: These fans demand more transfers during this window

It has been a fairly short and underwhelming transfer window for Sunderland fans this January. Back in November the club’s owner, Stewart Donald, insisted that he needed to financially back Phil Parkinson when speaking to BBC Newcastle (via Chronicle Live). Since then, the club has signed Kyle Lafferty for free until the end of the season and brought in Bailey Wright on a short term loan.

While these two signings could obviously improve the side, there is a low level of financial risk associated with them. This is because, as per the above reports, there were no transfer fees spent and both players are set to leave the club at the end of the season. There is still a chance Lafferty could extend his contract, but that will likely only happen if he proves to be a good signing anyway.

When Sunderland fan @Houghton1956 suggested that there would be no further signings this window, fans were disappointed. They think the club needs some serious investment, but are hardly surprised by the club’s incompetencies.

Do you think Sunderland will make any more signings this window?

No

Others have some faith that a deal or two will be done before the window ends. Until it is February, there is still a chance.

What do we think?

Sunderland fans could be a victim of their team’s recent success. With the side undefeated in seven games, and on a three-game winning streak heading into their match against Doncaster, ownership could feel that their squad is good enough. A quick glance back towards their November results will tell you that they definitely aren’t though.
