Sunderland Football Club are not in the best of shape right now. Before the season started, owner Stewart Donald targeted a 100 point haul by the end of the 2019/2020 campaign in League One.

The Black Cats are nowhere close to being on track with their target, achieving just 35 points in their first 23 games. The 46 game season is officially halfway done, meaning the club are only on track to achieve 70 points. If they had recorded that many points last season, they wouldn’t have made the playoffs (Sky Sports).

It is clear that the squad needs some serious improvement if they want to have any hope of getting promoted to the Championship next season. One player being rumoured as a potential signing is Billy Sharp. When Stephen Elliott tweeted out his support of such a signing, Sunderland fans agreed. They would love nothing more than to see Sharp pull on their jersey but can’t see the club meeting his wages.

Others think the entire notion of the rumour is ridiculous. They don’t have hope that he will join.

What do we think?

If Sunderland were to sign Sharp, it would obviously be a massive boost for the side. But these Sunderland fans are sceptical of their club’s ability to bring him to the Stadium of Light. With their expectations low, they can only be pleasantly surprised if Donald can pull off this shock signing.
