Some Southampton fans have made it very clear that they don’t see a future for central defender Wesley Hoedt at the club and would be willing to see him leave soon.

Hoedt is currently on loan at Belgian club Royal Antwerp and was loaned out to La Liga club Celta Vigo for one half of the campaign. The Dutchman has recently made comments to Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad about he doesn’t see a future for himself on the South Coast and that the ‘chapter is now closed’ for him.

Southampton fans: Should Hoedt leave?

A Saints Twitter handle called SaintsfcViews put out a post with these comments and Southampton fans are making it clear that they want the former Lazio man out soon.

Hoedt’s ongoing loan spell at Antwerp has been going well for the Dutchman. He has been a regular for the club in the centre of the defence. He has made a total of 19 appearances in all competitions for the club, playing consistently at centre-back.

For the Saints last season, he had made 13 appearances in the Premier League. But after leaving for Celta, he made ten appearances for the Spanish side in the La Liga and then came back to the club in the summer.

Hoedt had joined the Saints from Italian giants Lazio in the summer of 2017 for a fee of £15million. He had made 61 appearances in all competitions for the Biancocelesti during his time there, scoring four times and assisting once.

What do we think?

Southampton will get a good fee out of Hoedt since he is still 25 and selling him permanently this month will make sense since his deal at the Saints still has until 2022 to run. They can use that money to reinvest on some other players.
