Sheffield Wednesday: Team news ahead of QPR clash

|

Sheffield Wednesday take on Queens Park Rangers in the fourth round of this seasons FA Cup and ahead of the clash the Owls fans will be pleased to hear the club have no new injury concerns.

The report states that Wednesday have no fresh injury concerns for the cup-tie on Friday.

Also, Liam Palmer and Fernando Forestieri are edging closer to their respective returns but are unlikely to feature in the capital on Friday.

Of course, the fact that there are no injury concerns for the Owls boss means that Monk can pretty much pick from anyone and he has the luxury of perhaps resting certain players.

And, Palmer and Forestieri edging closer to their respective returns is another positive, as the former averages the sixth highest match rating in the Championship for the Owls, so he can provide some competition for Osaze Urhoghide once he returns, as well as offering more experience at right-back, with 244 Owls appearances.

Garry Monk’s side progressed from the third round having defeated Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion on their own ground and were subsequently drawn to face QPR this weekend.

Can SWFC overcome QPR and progress to the fifth round?

Yes

No

The West-Londoners overcame Swansea City in the last round, beating them 5-1 at Loftus Road and will no doubt fancy their chances of progression.

TIF Tactics – A chance to respond

Sheffield Wednesday’s last fixture was certainly one to forget as they were thrashed 5-0 at Hillsborough by Blackburn Rovers and so for Garry Monk’s side this game represents an opportunity to put that right.

The match takes place tonight under the lights and whilst it offers a welcomed distraction from life in the Championship, Wednesday will be eager to get back to their main focus which is sneaking into the play-off positions.

They currently sit in 10th place but there are just four points between themselves and Preston North End who currently occupy 6th and the Owl’s have played a game less.

Perhaps progression in the cup will do wonders for the teams confidence and using that they can push on and begin to close the gap on the rest of the play-off hopefuls.

Although QPR are currently below Garry Monk’s side in the Championship table there is no doubt they will prove tough opposition in the televised fixture between the two.
