Phil Hay has confirmed in his Q and A that a deal for Elia Caprile is “as good as done.”

A fan asked: “How confident are Leeds of securing all three deals, Phil? You have to say that if they drop the ball again this window they’re truly screwed.”

Hay then replied: “Caprile is as good as done”

This could be the Whites’ first signing of the transfer window, and they hope to conclude two more deals before the end of the month.

One of the other players who could arrive at Elland Road is Manchester City’s Ian Poveda, with the winger expected to be in Leeds on Thursday.

Why do Leeds want Caprile?

Kiko Casilla is still waiting to hear back from the FA about his use of racist language.

If they find him guilty, he will be banned for a minimum of six matches, which would leave Marcelo Bielsa with just Illan Meslier as a first-team goalkeeper.

Caprile, who is an Italian Under-18s international, perhaps won’t be the finished package but Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds clearly see something in him.

However, if Casilla is banned, Meslier could be the man to take his place, should he sign.

If Casilla is not banned by the FA then it is likely that Caprile will be mainly involved with the Under-23 squad while he adjusts to English playing conditions.

This deal is not one that has got many fans excited, but it could prove to be a clever piece of business from the Whites.
