Earlier in the week, Charlton Athletic right-back Adam Matthews celebrated his 28th birthday. Despite not playing in many games at the beginning of the season, Matthews has become a regular in Lee Bowyer’s side. In the club’s last 12 matches, Matthews has started nine, playing a full 90 minutes in each.
The Welsh international hasn’t made a Welsh cap since March 28, 2018, against Uruguay, but could be knocking of Ryan Giggs’ door after pulling together a consistent string of results. There are still quite a few other options available to Giggs at right-back, however, including record cap holder Chris Gunter, who has been seemingly replaced by Conor Roberts.
Does Adam Matthews deserve a Welsh callup?
Yes
No
But that hasn’t stopped Charlton Athletic fans from thinking the world of him. When the club wished the full-back a happy birthday on Monday, fans chimed right in. They really hope the new owners reward Matthews with a new contract, with his current contract expiring in the summer.
Happy birthday @Adam2Matthews, fingers crossed he can get a new contract soon

One fan thinks he is better than their other right-back option, Chris Solly, while another compares him to the legendary Cafu.
Better than solly lol happy birthday

What do we think?
If Matthews continues to play regular football under Bowyer, he could be rewarded with a new contract in the not so distant future. If he does re-sign, these fans will be thrilled with his decision. It appears as though his determination to get back into the team has won the support of the Addick’s faithful.
