Earlier in the week, Charlton Athletic announced that Conor Gallagher had been recalled from his loan by Chelsea. The news was a massive blow to Charlton Athletic who have been very reliant on the player so far this season. He has scored six goals and registered three assists in his 26 league appearances for the Addicks. Birmingham City have played 27 league games this season, meaning Gallagher has missed just one of Lee Bowyer’s Championship matches.
And while the news of Gallagher’s recall was hard enough to take, salt was rubbed in Charlton Athletic fans’ wounds when Chelsea loaned the player right back out to Charlton’s Championship opponents, Swansea. When they heard the news, Charlton fans demanded that Swansea treat the player right. They still care for the player a lot and want him to find success at Swansea. One fan admits that Gallagher will benefit from being able to have more rest throughout the remainder of the season.
treat him right. He did really well at @CAFCofficial …..hope he continues to develop and improve. Theres a lot to live up to #cafc #CFC #sfc

This player deserves a starting eleven slot, he gives 100% in every game, will score wonder goals and connect passes with Brewster (if he starts) so treat him right and he will repay you with performances.

He’s a great player. Our injuries meant he was playing every week so he was starting to look a bit jaded, but I’m sure the change of scenery and giving him the odd breather will see you get the best out of him. Great signing for you. Best wishes to Conor from everyone at #cafc

Do you think Swansea will achieve promotion with Gallagher?
No
Yes
Others question the move altogether. They think the move is a lateral one for Gallagher, with there being no benefits to the player or Chelsea.
This is painful and regrettably as we’ve experienced this isn’t a improvement for him Shame on #Chelsea #cafc

He will get a shock …. he’s used to playing infront of the best atmosphere created by fans in the league

What do we think?
Charlton Athletic fans have good reason to feel hard done by Chelsea’s decision to switch up Gallagher’s playing scenario mid-season with no real explanation provided. But now it is up to Lee Bowyer and his side to work towards progressing through the season without their young starlet.
