This week it was announced that Conor Gallagher was being recalled by Chelsea from his loan spell at Charlton Athletic. The 19-year-old has already played 26 games with the Addicks in the Championship this season, scoring six goals and assisting another three (transfermarkt.co.uk). It is fair to say that Gallagher has become an important part of Lee Bowyer’s side. The recall could have massive implications for Charlton Athletic in the second half of the season.
When Charlton Athletic announced the news of their Twitter page, the fans were livid. They couldn’t understand why Chelsea would pull such a stunt. Not only do they think it puts their season in jeopardy, but they also can’t fathom why Chelsea were unwilling to provide an adequate explanation as to why the player was being recalled.
A great pity. Not impressed with Chelsea to be fair. Still, there’s little sentiment in football. Just liked to thank Conor for his commitment to Charlton and for the pleasure he has given. Good luck for the future, look forward to seeing you in an England shirt.

Can someone please explain to me why this has happened?
Chelsea, Charlton or Gallagher?
Would be nice if we had a proper explanation because this is really jeopardising our season— ryan tait (@Turkishcypriot8) January 14, 2020
Absolutely no need to recall him, especially now they have the ban of buying lifted, can’t see any reason why a parent club would move a player who is settled, getting plenty of quality competitive game time and who is playing well, to unsettle him at this stage is ridiculous

No explanation as to why now and not at the end of the season?? Appreciate Chelski don’t need to give one, but explanation would be nice…Excellent player, wish him all the best
Update on Bowyer contract would also be good….— Matt Taylor (@llezx3addick) January 14, 2020
Are Charlton Athletic at risk of relegation without Conor Gallagher
Yes
Yes
Other fans admit that, at the end of the day, Chelsea have the right to do what they want with the player. After all, they own him. One fan suggests that Gallagher could be exhausted from overuse in Bowyer’s team. This still doesn’t make these fans feel better though.
An outstanding young talent, such a shame he can’t see out the season with #cafc but he’s Chelsea’s player and that’s their prerogative.
Best of luck Conor, thanks for the memories— david moss (@dm055y) January 14, 2020
He’s absolutely knackered and shot anyway . He need a few weeks off. I wish the kid luck but it’s extremely bad from Chelsea . Why?

What do we think?
The problem with loaning out players is that their future is never certain. The fans at Charlton Athletic would have loved to have seen Gallagher stay, but they must now move on.
