Some Celtic fans have been left to slate pundit Kris Boyd for his comments about Leigh Griffiths after the Hoops’ win over Kilmarnock in the Premiership.

The game against the Killies saw Griffiths score another goal, days after scoring against Partick Thistle in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup. Odsonne Edouard and Christopher Jullien got the other two goals.

Celtic fans: Should Boyd be sacked by Sky Sports?

He's a disgrace!

After the game though, Boyd was critical of Griffiths. In an interview, he said that Griffiths isn’t ‘doing enough on the training field’. These comments come months after Griffiths had taken a break from the game due to mental health issues.

A Hoops-related fan-page called ‘Papa Beans’ slammed Boyd for his comments. And some fans made it clear that Boyd himself has a Mental Health Charity.

In the 2018-19 Premiership season, Griffiths had made 20 appearances in all competitions for the Hoops. He found the back of the net a total of six times, also racking up two assists on the way. But the turn of the year saw Griffiths take a break from the game due to mental health issues.

Griffiths then returned to action in the beginning of the season but then succumbed to a hamstring injury which kept him out for 15 games in all competitions.

This season, the Scotland striker has made 20 appearances in all competitions for Neil Lennon’s men. He has racked up a tally of five goals, also coming up with a couple of assists. The start he got against Kilmarnock was his first in the Premiership since a start he made against Motherwell in the second game of the season.

What do we think?

A fit Griffiths can be a very reliable option for goals at Parkhead. The fact that he has scored two in two games shows that he might just be getting back in the habit of scoring goals once again. As for Boyd’s comments, they were uncalled for and hypocritical.
