Some Celtic fans are in a desperate hope to know that a transfer claim about a striker potentially arriving at Parkhead is reliable and want to see it happen as soon as possible.

The Hoops are likely to look for recruitments in the January transfer window, which has swung open today. Neil Lennon’s men have already been linked with a host of players in the winter, with two of them being strikers.

Slovan Bratislava forward Andraz Sporar and Sheffield Wednesday attacker Jordan Rhodes have been linked, making fans feel that signing a striker is a priority for the club.

Celtic fans: Rhodes or Sporar?

A post on the KerryDale Street Celtic Forum, which had been shared by CelticBible on Twitter, saw someone post about the club possibly finalising a move for a striker. Some Hoops fans can only hope that the piece of information can be relied upon.

Odsonne Edouard has been the Hoops’ first-choice striker so far this season. The Frenchman has played 31 times in all competitions for the club, scoring 16 times and racking up a total of 15 assists too. Leigh Griffiths is the club’s second-choice currently, but he has not made a single league start since returning from injury.

As for Sporar, he has been in impressive form for Slovan so far this season. He has racked up a tally of 20 goals and five assists while playing 26 games in all competitions. In the UEFA Europa League, he has played six games and has scored five times.

29-year-old Rhodes, though, hasn’t scored as many goals for the Owls this season. He has played only 12 times in all competitions for the club, scoring three goals only. All of those goals have come in the Championship and he has played ten games only.

What do we think?

Celtic would have to be very sure about what they want. Sporar is at the peak of his career and is having a very good season with Slovan. He would want first-team football at Parkhead. But the club don’t exactly need a regular starter. That is why a move for Rhodes will make more sense. He will be cheaper and won’t need as much first-team football.
