Celtic maintained their two-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership after a 3-1 win at Kilmarnock. The Hoops went two goals ahead through Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths before the home side pulled a goal back via Nicke Kabamba’s header. However, the points were sealed when Christopher Jullien restored the two-goal cushion on 73 minutes.
Despite the victory, one Celtic player, in particular, has come in for some criticism from the club’s supporters and that’s 32-year-old wide man Jonny Hayes, who received a rating of 6/10 (67 Hail Hail) for his performance.
Heres what some of the fans had to say regarding his performance on the night and his time at the club in general.
Is Jonny Hayes a good squad player for Celtic?
Yes
No
Sorry to be negative …….. but Jonny Hayes is simply not good enough. 100% for effort but he wouldn’t get in that Killie team.

Fairly happy with that and looking comfortable! Bless Jonny Hayes, tries his absolute hardest every game but just a severe lack of quality IMO.

Didn’t do much right either. He just isn’t good enough or shouldn’t be considered good enough to play for Celtic. He’s, to put it in a nice way, the least best player in the 11 tonight by a considerable margin.

Jonny Hayes has stunk out Rugby Park.
He has no idea.— Der Stench Kaput (@Derstenchnewco) January 22, 2020
Jonny Hayes can’t cross a ball.

Even Stormzy knows Jonny Hayes should be nowhere near this club https://t.co/JBWkHi8PnR

Jonny Hayes brings nothing to this team.

And that, Jonny Hayes, is why you never play the ball across the face of your own goal.

Your totally ignoring the point to try stick up for him, Jonny Hayes is nowhere near the level of a Celtic player

What do we think?
It’s clear that the general consensus amongst the supporters regarding Jonny Hayes is that he’s not good enough. However, it’s extremely difficult, unfair even to criticise the player’s work-rate and effort.
Celtic’s title rivals Rangers also picked up three points on Wednesday evening having beaten St Mirren at Ibrox and so although the inclusion and performance of Hayes has become a big talking point post-match, the key thing here is that the Hoops, at least temporarily, are keeping Steven Gerrard’s side off of the top.
