According to a report in The Athletic, Derby County are interested in bringing the former World Cup-winning defender Adil Rami to Pride Park.

The Frenchman, who is valued at £1.35 million (as per Transfermarkt), is said to be keen on a move to the Premier League before the closure of this month’s transfer window but it’s understood the most concrete interest is coming from the Championship side.

The report claims that Crystal Palace are also considering making an offer for the player but that they’re yet to make a formal approach. They would have the advantage of being able to offer the 34-year-old Premier League football and so the Rams may have a difficult time persuading the former Sevilla defender to join them over the south Londoners.

TIF – Desperate to move on

Rami currently plays his football for the Turkish side Fenerbahce but has only made five appearances for them so far this season, with four of those coming in their domestic cup competition.

Clearly out of favour, the right-footed central-defender is understandably desperate to move on to pastures new but with his contract set-to-expire in the summer, it remains to be seen whether Derby or Crystal Palace will be willing to pay a fee to sign him immediately or whether they would prefer to wait until the end of the season when he will be a free agent.

Having represented some of the continents biggest clubs, you can understand why the opportunity to add Rami, even at 34-years-old, to the squad would be appealing to the likes of both Phillip Cocu and Roy Hodgson.

Formerly of AC Milan, Valencia, Sevilla and Marseille – he’s certainly not lacking in top-level experience.
