Scottish giants Celtic have been dealt a blow in their chase for Stoke City striker Tyrese Campbell, with Sheffield United now looking to make an offer for the player.

The Daily Record claims that the Blades are now in the race for the striker, with the report also saying that Rangers are also in it. It is stated that United will try to gazump the Old Firm derby rivals in this case, with Celtic and Rangers already having made an offer for the player.

Celtic fans: Should the club push for Campbell?

The report also says that the Blades are willing to pay a ‘significant’ fee to lure the Englishman to sign the player.

Making an impact at Stoke

The 20-year-old is already a regular striker for Stoke this season. He has made 22 appearances in all competitions for the club’s first-team, having found the back of the net five times and racking up one assist. Those five goals have come in the Championship and so have the assists.

He has also played twice in the Premier League 2 for the Stoke Under-23s side, scoring four times and impressing at that level.

While Campbell’s debut came last season, he had scored five times in 15 games during his time at Shrewsbury in League One. In the Premier League 2 last season, Campbell had played only ten games and found the back of the net as many as six times.

He made his debut for the England Under-20s side recently and has already scored two goals, playing just as many times.

What do we think?

Campbell is 20 and would present a bargain deal for any club that signs him since his current deal at the club runs out in the summer of 2020. And being young, he has that sell-on potential that clubs like Celtic could certainly benefit a lot from.

The Hoops can’t afford to miss out on him. Signing him for cheap and then loaning him out will make perfect sense for development, considering they already having Odsonne Edouard, Leigh Griffiths and new signing Patryk Klimala at the club.
