According to The Star, Rangers are interested in securing the services of Cameron Dawson from Sheffield Wednesday. The goalkeeper has played 13 games in the Championship this season, achieving six shutouts and conceding just 10 goals (transfermarkt.co.uk).

Back in mid-December, the Daily Mail reported that Middlesborough were monitoring the situation of Wes Foderingham. Middlesborough aren’t the only team to have been linked with the Rangers backup, with MLS side DC United expressing interest back in late September, as well.

The Sun claimed that Rangers were keen to keep Foderingham on, but the player is yet to sign a new deal. His current contract ends in the summer, meaning the club could risk seeing him walk away for free.

Like Foderingham, Dawson’s contract is set to expire in the summer, but the Sheffield side are interested in extending that contract.

TIF Tactics – Could Dawson cut it at Rangers?

Dawson could be the perfect replacement for Foderingham if he chooses to leave. Dawson has split games evenly with Keiren Westwood this season. The former Republic of Ireland international has played 15 games while Dawson has played 16. The goalkeeper was mostly a backup at the beginning of the season but has now beaten the Irishman out for the starting spot in recent weeks, with Westwood being dropped from the squad altogether.

Do you see Cameron Dawson as an ideal replacement for Wed Foderingham?

This indicates that Dawson has played the part of the backup before, but isn’t willing to take that as an opportunity to put his feet up. He has worked hard to win the spot off Westwood and is now playing regular football for his side under Garry Monk.

Should the player make the move to Rangers, it is likely that the player won’t settle for a spot on the bench and will push Allan McGregor for a starting spot. This will either improve McGregor or provide Rangers fans with an improved first-choice keeper.

Since Dawson has found regular football at Sheffield Wednesday, it might mean that he is unwilling to make the move just yet. He may very well want to stay and see out his time with Sheffield Wednesday. However, the lure of playing at Ibrox and teaming up with Steven Gerrard could prove to be a little too hard to turn down, should an offer come his way.
