A deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers to sign Daniel Podence from Olympiacos appears to be edging closer to moving over the line, according to Tim Spiers.

As stated by the Athletic journalist, Spiers has revealed that he has been told that a deal ‘could be wrapped up by the weekend’.

Strong season for the winger

During this season, the 24-year-old Portuguese winger appears to be having a strong season for his Greek club with ten direct goal involvements from 27 games (as per Transfermarkt).

Of those ten goal involvements, five have been goals for himself and five assists for teammates (per Transfermarkt), leaving his market value to be at £5.4 million (as per Transfermarkt).

Do you believe that Daniel Podence will be a starter for Wolves or just provide squad depth?

The Portuguese attacker is predominantly a left-winger, which will give Podence two main competitors in Nuno Espirito Santo’s first-team squad.

Both Diogo Jota and Pedro Neto are extremely capable in playing the left-winger position (per WhoScored), however, Jota has also sporadically featured as a centre-forward and shadow-striker on occasion this term (per Transfermarkt).

In terms of average rating so far this term, Podence has performed better than both of his Wolves counterparts.

The Olympiacos forward has a strong average rating of 6.95/10 (as per WhoScored), meanwhile, Jota is on 6.73/10 and Neto with the least on 6.46/10 (per WhoScored).

However, of the trio, Jota has performed the best in terms of goal involvements, with 14 overall. Those being nine goals and five assists over 29 games in all competitions (per Transfermarkt).

With his strong average rating and decent goal involvements tally, though, it is likely that Podence will provide superb backup, with a view to starting, for the Old Gold first-team squad.
