Spurs fans were devastated to hear that Moussa Sissoko is expected to miss the next couple of weeks due to injury. Although, Mourinho didn’t state it would be for a couple of weeks, just simply that it’s not a small injury and he can’t speak about times in terms of a possible lay-off.

According to BT Sport Football (via Ricky Sacks), the Frenchman sustained an injury in the loss against Southampton on New Year’s Day and joins an ever-growing injury list that already includes the likes of Harry Kane and Tanguy Ndombele. With Harry Winks also taken off injured in the draw with Middlesbrough on Sunday, Spurs’ midfield options now look extremely thin.

Sissoko, who joined Spurs from Newcastle in 2016, has now made 151 appearances for the North London club; scoring just four times. The 30-year-old midfielder was instrumental in Spurs’ run to the Champions League final last season and was named in UEFA’s Champions League squad of the season, but has struggled so far this season; averaging a disappointing 6.64 rating.

Reaction from Spurs fans to the news of Sissoko’s injury can be seen in the tweets below.

These Spurs fans are clearly devastated to hear that Sissoko is set for a spell on the sidelines, with the squad already looking threadbare.

What do we think?

Sissoko has been rather inconsistent under Mourinho so far; producing excellent displays against Burnley and Bournemouth but struggling in recent fixtures. It is no surprise that Spurs’ injury troubles are coming after a busy festive period, so it will be interesting to see if and how they strengthen in the January transfer window.
