Spurs fans were delighted to hear Jose Mourinho confirm that the club are planning on offering youngster Japhet Tanganga a new contract.

Mourino revealed in Friday’s press conference (via Ricky Sacks), that he expects the 20-year-old defender to sign a new deal with the North London club, saying: “I think the club is always interested in its young players. So yes I think Tanganga will sign a new contract.” The Spurs academy graduate’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the season, so fans will be relieved that Mourinho is confident of him extending his stay.

Although he is yet to feature in the Premier League, Tanganga was a big part of Spurs’ pre-season squad and made his professional debut for the club in the Carabao Cup defeat against Colchester earlier in the season. With Spurs’ defence currently struggling in the league; with just two clean sheets to their name, fans will no doubt be delighted that one of the club’s hottest prospects is expected to sign a new deal.

Reaction from Spurs fans to the update on Tanganga can be seen in the tweets below.

These Spurs fans are clearly delighted with the update on Tanganga and will be hoping to see more of the youngster if he does sign a new deal.

What do we think?

If Tanganga does sign a new deal then it would not be a surprise to see him start to feature more, especially with the potential exit of Jan Vertonghen in January. With Spurs’ defence continuing to struggle, surely it is only a matter of time until Mourinho turns to his youth players.
