A lot of Spurs fans were shocked to hear that the club have joined the race for Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell.

According to the Daily Mail (via Hotspur Related), the North London club have been looking at Cantwell closely, but the Canaries could demand up to £30 million for the youngster. Cantwell has started the season very impressively for Daniel Farke’s side; with six goals and two assists in 21 appearances.

Although the 21-year-old was not a regular in the Norwich side that won promotion last season; starting on just 18 occasions, he has established himself as a regular in the top division and his performances for a struggling Canaries side have been reportedly been enough to attract the attention of some top clubs. Cantwell also recently made his debut for England u’21s following a strong start to the Premier League campaign.

Reaction from Spurs fans to the reported interest in Cantwell can be seen in the tweets below.

These Spurs fans clearly rate Cantwell and would certainly welcome a move for the 21-year-old in January.

What do we think?

Cantwell has made an excellent start to the season for Norwich and you wonder what he could do for a side that isn’t seemingly destined for relegation. Spurs need to focus on improving their struggling defence in the January window more than anything else, so perhaps they should hold off on the Englishman and make a move in the summer when Norwich could well be headed back to the Championship.
