Spurs fans were delighted to hear that the club are reportedly considering a move for Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake in this month’s transfer window.

According to Telegraph Sport (via Daily Hotspur), the North London club are one of several clubs tracking the former Chelsea defender. Ake has established himself as a top-quality centre-back for Bournemouth since making the move to Eddie Howe’s side in 2017; with the 24-year-old now a regular in the Netherlands’ defence; having made his debut in May 2017.

However, Ake has struggled so far this season for the Cherries; averaging a 6.72 rating, with this season looking as if it might be the one in which the Dorset club could succumb to relegation; with Howe’s side currently sitting in 18th position. The Dutch defender is currently valued at £31.5 million by transfermarkt, so it could be an expensive signing for Jose Mourinho should he convince the Bournemouth man to make the move to North London.

Reaction from Spurs fans to the reported interest in Ake can be seen in the tweets below.

These Spurs fans are clearly hoping that the club makes a move for Ake during the transfer window, with one fan remarking that he would be an excellent replacement for Jan Vertonghen, who is expected to leave Spurs, either in January or when his contract expires at the end of the season.

What do we think?

Spurs desperately need defensive reinforcements, with Mourinho’s side boasting one of the worst defensive records in the league; with just two clean sheets to their name all season. With Vertonghen being linked with a move away, Ake could be the left-sided defender Spurs need, especially with the Dutchman also able to fill in at left-back.
