Spurs fans were delighted to hear that Ryan Sessegnon is still striving to improve under Jose Mourinho.
The 19-year-old spoke to Sky Sports (via Daily Hotspur), about his recent performances, saying: “I’ve been a bit disappointed the way I have been playing recently. I’m usually a very positive player with the ball but the last few games I haven’t exploited areas which I usually would. For upcoming games, if I am involved, I have to do better.”
The versatile left-sided player joined Spurs from Fulham during the summer for around £25 million and has enjoyed a run in the team of late; having started each of the last four games. Sessegnon missed a lot of the early season under Mauricio Pochettino after suffering an injury on England u’21 international duty but rewarded Mourinho with a goal against Bayern Munich on his first start for the new manager.

Great attitude. More of our players should have the same.

Agree with this. He hasn’t been bad as such, he maybe just hasn’t been as brave going forward as we might have expected. Good to see that positive attitude and wanting to improve @RyanSessegnon

Mourinho will destroy him, another Luke Shaw in the making. Would of excelled under Poch. Hope I’m wrong, but can see it happening.

He look terrified at Boro on Sunday. Like he wasn’t capable of beating his man, I’d rather him have a go at the full back and lose the ball every time than just turn around and start again. Hopefully he’s more positive cause he’s definitely got it.

These Spurs fans clearly still believe in Sessegnon’s ability and potential, although one fan was fearful of the negative impact which Mourinho could potentially have on the youngster.
What do we think?
Sessegnon has been playing at left wing-back in recent games, which perhaps explains why he hasn’t felt able to push forward as much. The 19-year-old clearly has the quality, as we saw when he won the Championship Player of the Year award aged just 18, but he will have to improve his recent performances if he wants to become a regular under Mourinho.
