Spurs fans were delighted to hear the latest news on reported target Samuel Umtiti, with Jose Mourinho hopeful of completing his signing in the next few days.
According to the Telegraph Sport, Mourinho is hopeful of completing the signing of a central defender, with Umtiti having been offered to the North London club. The French defender has struggled for game time so far this season at the Nou Camp; having made just eight appearances in all competitions this campaign.
The World Cup-winning defender has struggled with injuries in his time at the Catalan club; which is perhaps one of the reasons he has lost his place in the side to Clement Lenglet, who signed for the club last season. Umtiti, who signed for Barcelona from Lyon in 2016, has gone on to make 106 appearances in nearly four years at the club but it seems as if the club are ready to offload him in this month’s transfer window.
Would Umtiti be a good signing for Spurs?

Unlikely, but imagine a CB rotation of Toby, Umtiti, Tanganga, and Sanchez. With Foyth thrown in at CDM

I definitely wouldn’t say no, very good defender when fit.
My first choice would be Stones or Ake both Premiership experience Stones would be no1 choice, imo anyway— McCrory (@SuperHotspursfc) January 14, 2020
Big fan of Umtiti but he’s been absolutely ravaged by injury.

These Spurs fans clearly rate Umtiti despite his injury issues and would love to see him make the move to North London this month.
What do we think?
Spurs do need defensive signings, with just two clean sheets to their name all season and Umtiti could well be the long-term replacement for Jan Vertonghen, who now looks likely to leave in the summer when his contract expires. The 26-year-old is currently valued at £36 million by Transfermarkt, but Spurs could perhaps get a better deal considering his injury issues.
