Spurs fans were delighted to hear that Sporting Lisbon are expecting to receive an improved offer from a European club for Bruno Fernandes, following Manchester United’s reported £46.4 million bid for the midfielder.

According to the Times (via Daily Hotspur), the Portuguese side received an improved offer from Manchester United over the weekend but feel that a better offer may yet arise from a European club. Spurs were reportedly close to signing the midfielder during the summer transfer window and fans are now hoping that the North London club could steal ahead of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side and sign the 25-year-old ahead of Friday’s deadline.

Jose Mourinho’s side are arguably in need of an attacking midfielder, with Christian Eriksen looking set to seal his move to Inter this week and Fernandes could prove to be the ideal replacement. The Portuguese international has been in fantastic form so far this season; averaging an impressive 7.83 rating in all competitions, so it is no surprise to see him being so heavily linked with a move away from the Liga NOS side.

Reaction from Spurs fans to the news of Sporting hoping for a better offer can be seen in the tweets below.

One fan even suggested that Daniel Levy could be the man coming in with a better offer for Fernandes, although, it’s unlikely that he’ll better a £46.4 million offer as Spurs are set to splash out on Giovani Lo Celso permanently this month.

These Spurs fans are clearly hoping that they turn out to be the team whom Sporting are expecting the improved offer from.

What do we think?

There is no doubting Fernandes’ talent, he has been superb in his time with Sporting Lisbon, but Spurs already look likely to bring Giovani Lo Celso in on a permanent deal as Eriksen’s replacement and their priority after that should be securing a striker to replace the injured Harry Kane.
