Spurs fans were delighted to hear that reported target Willian Jose could be allowed to leave Real Sociedad for £18 million this month.

According to the Telegraph (via Daily Hotspur), the Spanish side want just £18 million for the 28-year-old, despite his reported release clause of £59 million. Spurs are currently in the market for a new striker, with usual first-choice Harry Kane set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after injuring his hamstring earlier this month.

Willian Jose has been a fairly effective striker for Real Sociedad; having scored 53 goals in 110 appearances for the club since joining from UD Las Palmas in 2016. Despite scoring eight goals already this season, the striker has a disappointing average rating of just 6.59, but his strengths of finishing and passing suggest that he could be an effective target man in Jose Mourinho’s system.

Should Spurs just pay up for Willian Jose?

A couple of fans even went as far as praising Daniel Levy, which is slightly over the top as he won’t have had anything to do with the price that Real Sociedad have set. Although, it was originally thought that Spurs would have to meet the £59 million release clause of the striker, so you can understand why some fans have joked that Levy played at part in their apparent change of heart, as he’s known for driving a hard bargain.

These Spurs fans clearly feel that if Real Sociedad are indeed asking for as little as £18 million then it is a no-brainer to bring the Brazilian to North London this month.

What do we think?

£18 million seems like an excellent price for someone who is currently valued at £27 million by transfermarkt. The Sociedad striker is only 28-years-old and could do a job as a back-up to Harry Kane for a few years, so it seems on paper to be a great deal.
