Spurs fans were treated to some quotes from defender Jan Vertonghen on Twitter this week, although many fans feel that it is time the Belgian left the club.
Vertonghen was questioned about his Spurs future in a post-match press conference, as quoted by Evening Standard (via Ricky Sacks), but insisted he is “happy” at Spurs.
The 32-year-old said: “I feel like everything I say will affect it in one way or another, so I prefer not to answer. But I am a happy man, I love the guys, life is good in London and at this great club.”
The Belgian international joined Spurs in 2012 from Ajax and has gone on to make 304 appearances for the North London club in nearly seven years in the Premier League.
However, his time at Spurs looks to be coming to an end, with the experienced defender yet to sign an extension to his current contract; which is set to expire at the end of the season.
Does Jan Vertonghen deserve a new deal at Spurs?

He’s not the player he was, but he’s a good dude so I’d happily keep him, play him sparingly, but let him teach the youngsters too, no better man in the squad to learn from.

These Spurs fans clearly feel that Vertonghen is now past it and feel like it is time to let the 32-year-old go.
What do we think?
Vertonghen might be 32 but he has put in some decent performances for Spurs so far this season; averaging a 7.00 rating for his displays in the Premier League.
He may well be worth a one-year extension to provide back-up but it will be interesting to see if the £16.2 million rated man is offered a new deal.
