Spurs fans were delighted to hear that Chelsea could be willing to sell Olivier Giroud to them before Friday’s deadline, although it would cost them more than the £4.5 million Frank Lampard’s side originally demanded from Inter.
According to Paul Brown’s article in the Daily Star (via Daily Hotspur), Chelsea are yet to say no to Spurs’ interest in the experienced striker but would demand a fee higher than what they asked for from Inter, who had agreed terms with the striker until pulling out of any deal. The 33-year-old striker has struggled for game time this season; having made just two starts in the Premier League, but it seems as if Jose Mourinho’s side are desperate to bring in a striker to replace the injured Harry Kane before Friday’s deadline.
Lazio have reportedly managed to find an agreement over Giroud, but it’s all just speculation at this point.
Although he has barely featured this season, Giroud is a proven goal-scorer in the Premier League; having hit 78 goals in 225 appearances across spells with Chelsea and Arsenal. Despite being out of contract in the summer and valued at just £8.1 million, you suspect that Chelsea would demand an inflated price for the French international, to try and avoid strengthening their top-four rivals.
