Spurs fans were delighted to see the loan signing of Gedson Fernandes confirmed by the club on Wednesday morning.
Spurs announced that the 21-year-old has joined Spurs on an 18-month loan, with the option to make the transfer permanent in the future. It is the North London club’s first signing of the January window and Jose Mourinho’s first since he was made Spurs manager in November.
The midfielder joins Spurs from Portuguese side Benfica; with whom he had made 59 appearances for; scoring three goals. The youngster is a product of the youth academy at the Liga NOS side but had struggled for game time so far this season with the league leaders; making just four starts in all competitions.

If I know anything about Gedson, and I don’t, it’s that he is the next Kante and is one of the best players in the world already

These Spurs fans are clearly delighted with the signing of Fernandes and will be hoping that the young midfielder can make a good impression.
What do we think?
Although Fernandes was struggling to get into the Benfica side, he is still young and is widely regarded as an exciting prospect. With Moussa Sissoko injured until April, the 21-year-old could prove to be an excellent short-term replacement, as well as a potential long-term replacement for the Frenchman.
