At the time of writing this, Spurs could reportedly “reappear on the horizon” for signing former Liverpool midfielder Emre Can before Friday’s transfer deadline.

In Thursday’s edition of Corriere Dello Sport (via Sport Witness), they discuss the options for the Juventus midfielder, who had looked likely to join Borussia Dortmund. However, with no adequate bid on the table, it seems as if Spurs and Barcelona are back in the running to sign the German international.

It’s stated that there is a belief the Serie A champions could do a deal around €25m (£21m), but if the Germans don’t up their offer, it’s believed either Tottenham or Barcelona could ‘reappear on the horizon’ and become a ‘last minute solution’ for the midfielder.

However, it has since been stated that Borussia Dortmund have reached an agreement over the midfielder, so Tottenham’s potential hopes may have been dashed.

The 26-year-old has struggled for game time in Maurizio Sarri’s side this season and with the midfielder reportedly been offered to Spurs earlier in the window, perhaps we could see him make the move to North London ahead of Friday’s deadline. Jose Mourinho’s side have already brought in Gedson Fernandes on loan, as well as completing the permanent signing of Giovani Lo Celso, but Can would provide the Portuguese manager with a defensive-minded midfielder with plenty of Premier League experience.

TIF Tactics: Is signing Emre Can a possibility for Spurs?

Can made 167 appearances for Liverpool in his previous spell in England and contributed 14 goals and 12 assists, before making the move to Juventus at the end of the 2017/18 season. However, his move has not really gone to plan, considering he has made just 45 appearances for the Serie A giants, whilst Liverpool have of course gone on to win the Champions League.

If the report is true and no deal can be agreed between Lucien Favre’s side and Juventus, as well as the reported agreement proving to be wrong, then the midfielder could well prove to be a “last-minute solution” for Jose Mourinho ahead of Friday’s deadline, should the German club fail to up their offer (condition).
