Paulo Dybala came so close to joining Tottenham Hotspur in the summer that he had recorded a farewell video to share with the Juventus fans – that’s according to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Football Italia). The Argentinian was linked with a move to North London but a transfer never came to fruition but he has since signed a new contract to remain with the Old Lady.

The emergence of these latest reports has left some Spurs supporters devastated that the club were unable to get a deal for the Serie A star over the line after Twitter account Daily Hotspur shared the news with their followers.

What do we think?

Signing a player of Dybala’s reputation just months after reaching the UEFA Champions League final would have been a huge statement from Spurs but unfortunately, for whatever reason, they were unable to get the deal over the line.

Fast-forward to January and the club are said to be on the lookout for a striker to deputise for the injured Harry Kane but Porto’s Ze Luis, the player they’re being linked with today, is arguably not quite as high-profile as the Juventus striker.

Dybala is valued at £76.5m (via Transfermarkt.co.uk) and has made 17 Serie A appearances so far this season. He’s scored five goals and provided six assists and appears to have found a new lease of life under Maurizio Sarri making a transfer to London in the near future increasingly unlikely.
