Tottenham Hotspur have attempted to sign Moussa Marega on a ‘paid loan with an option to buy’ from Porto, according to Foot Mercato.

According to the report, as cited by Sport Witness, Spurs have had an interest alongside fellow Premier League outfit, West Ham United, however, neither have met the asking price.

It’s claimed both West Ham and Tottenham have tried to sign him on a ‘paid loan with an option to buy’.

Hefty fee wanted

As stated in the report, Porto are only interested in doing business for their 28-year-old, Malian striker for an offer in the region of €30 million (£25.3m).

However, with the forward having a market value of £21.6 million (as per Transfermarkt), neither of the Premier League sides are willing to stump up the desired cash.

Would Moussa Marega make a good backup option for Harry Kane?

TiF Tactics – How does Marega compare to Kane?

Due to Kane’s long-term injury, which will keep the 26-year-old Englishman sidelined for a number of months (as per BBC), his replacement will need to adequately fill his boots for Jose Mourinho.

With an impressive 17 goals and two assists, giving Spurs’ injured forward 19 goal involvements over 25 appearances in all competitions this season (as per Transfermarkt), Kane has been in fine form.

His possible replacement, however, has not been quite so prolific for his Liga NOS side. Having scored seven and assisted six over the same number of games in all competitions (as per Transfermarkt).

When considering the pair’s average ratings for the season so far, Marega again has an admirable showing but falls short of the Spurs striker.

For this season, Kane has a stellar 7.42/10 average rating (as per WhoScored), whereas Marega has earned a respectable, but still weaker, 7.13/10 (as per WhoScored).

While the Malian has clearly performed weaker than Kane has across the season, his stats prove that he can score, assist and perform well on a consistent basis, making him a possibly good option for Mourinho’s side to return for.
