Spurs fans were disappointed with Japhet Tanganga’s display against Watford during the 0-0 draw on Saturday.

The 20-year-old was starting his third consecutive game under Jose Mourinho, this time at left-back, but struggled to deal with the pace of Watford winger Naby Sarr throughout the game. Although he earnt a respectable 7.1 rating from WhoScored, the youngster didn’t impress as much as he has in previous performances when deployed in a more natural position.

Tanganga only recently made his Premier League debut in the loss against Liverpool earlier this month but has quickly won over staff and fans with his performances. However, it seems as if fans are not quite as convinced by the youngster after a nervous opening at Vicarage Road in which he was booked early on, but he showed maturity to ensure that he didn’t pick up another booking.

Was Mourinho wrong to play Tanganga at left-back?

Reaction from Spurs fans to Tanganga’s performance against Watford can be seen in the tweets below.

These Spurs fans clearly felt that Tanganga struggled at left-back and will be hoping that Mourinho doesn’t opt to play him there again.

What do we think?

Although he was playing in an unfamiliar position, Tanganga did help Spurs to their first clean sheet since early December, so he can’t have played too badly. He is still a top prospect and will no doubt have impressed Mourinho with his versatility across the back-line.
