Spurs are reportedly considering a move for AC Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu to replace Christian Eriksen this month.

According to Turkish newspaper Aksam (via Sport Witness), the North London club are considering signing the 25-year-old as a replacement for Eriksen; who is close to joining Inter during this month’s transfer window. Calhanoglu has made 18 appearances for Milan so far this season; contributing two goals and one assist.

The Turkish international hasn’t really set the world alight with Milan since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in 2017; having scored just 14 times in 109 appearances for the Italian giants. The report suggests that Spurs are willing to meet Milan’s €20 million (£16.9 million) asking price for the winger, who could be willing to join the North London club as a fresh start ahead of the Euro 2020 competition this summer.

TIF Tactics:

Perhaps best renowned for his free kicks, Calhanoglu has never really been able to replicate his performances from his time at Bayer Leverkusen in his spell with the Rossoneri. Stefano Pioli’s side currently sit eighth in the Serie A table, so the winger may well favour a move to Jose Mourinho’s side, where European football looks slightly more of a possibility.

Spurs are perhaps not in need of an Eriksen replacement, with the recent performances of Giovani Lo Celso perhaps proof enough that the club should bring him in on a permanent deal. Calhanoglu has not done enough this season to prove he is ready to play for a side such as Spurs; averaging a 6.94 rating and perhaps Spurs should look elsewhere this window.
