Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made a move for Boubakary Soumare.

According to French newspaper L’Equipe (via Sport Witness), the North London club are one of several Premier League teams taking a serious interest in the French midfielder and have reportedly made a bid. Spurs have already brought in one midfielder in Gedson Fernandes during this month’s transfer window but could be about to add to their ranks should they be able to negotiate a deal for the 20-year-old midfielder.

The Lille man is currently valued at £19.8 million by Transfermarkt but the report from L’Equipe suggests that Lille would only accept a minimum bid of €50 million (£42.5 million) for the former PSG man. Since joining the club in 2017, Soumare has gone on to make 64 appearances for the Ligue 1 side having established himself as a regular starter during this campaign; with the youngster having 26 appearances in all competitions.

TIF Tactics:

Spurs are arguably in need of a holding midfielder, with Eric Dier having struggled to perform, averaging a Whoscored rating of just 6.63/10 in the league so far this season and Victor Wanyama having barely featured this season. Soumare has primarily been used as a defensive-midfielder by Christophe Galtier this season; playing 14 times there, so could certainly play that role in Jose Mourinho’s side.

However, Spurs are running out of time in the transfer market and arguably need to prioritise a striker; with Harry Kane having been ruled out until April with a hamstring injury, Spurs already brought in one young French midfielder in Tanguy Ndombele during the summer and given how he has performed so far, it would be a surprise to see them spend big on Soumare this month.

Although, with other clubs also reportedly making moves, it looks like Spurs will face a battle to sign the midfielder.
