Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly ‘entered discussions’ to sign Islam Slimani from Leicester City this transfer window, according to RMC Sport.

According to the report, as cited by Sport Witness, the North London club are interested in bringing in the on-loan Foxes forward following Harry Kane’s long-term injury (as per BBC).

Competition from Premier League rival

As also stated by the report, Spurs’ Premier League rivals, Manchester United, have also enquired to the Foxes ‘asking for information’ (as per RMC Sport).

It’s claimed that the two Premier League clubs have ‘entered discussions’ with the player’s entourage about a move before the end of the month.

Over the duration of this season, while being on loan with AS Monaco, the 31-year-old striker has scored seven and assisted seven over 14 games in all competitions (as per Transfermarkt), which has turned the Red Devils’ head along with Jose Mourinho’s, reportedly.

After being initially ruled out until April, then being unclear when he will return, it is certain that Kane will be out of action for a number of months (via BBC), meaning any incoming striker will be required to fill his boots.

Prior to picking up a hamstring injury, the 26-year-old forward featured in 25 games in all competitions, with an overall total of 19 goal involvements, split between 17 goals and two assists (as per Transfermarkt).

Thus, Kane has had a goal involvement every 1.36 games so far this term (via Transfermarkt), whereas Slimani’s 14 goal contributions in 14 games for his Ligue 1 club gives him an average of one every outing (per Transfermarkt).

However, Kane outperforms the Algerian in terms of his average rating for the season so far, with a 7.42/10 (per WhoScored).

This being only marginally better than Slimani’s 7.22/10 (per WhoScored), meaning that the Leicester City man could still be a viable stop-gap option.
